Activists march from Jarrow to London in Support of the NHS.
South Yorkshire activists have taken part in the Jarrow to London march, covering the stretch from Barnsley to Sheffield. The march, in support of funding for the NHS, is following in the steps of the October 1936 protest against unemployment and extreme poverty suffered in North East England during the great depression. Around 50 people took part in the march with more joining for the rally in Sheffield. The march is due to set of first thing tomorrow morning, continuing the long journey to London. The NHS has been increasingly privatised since New Labours controversial reforms in 1999. Since then the NHS has been gradually shifted from the public sector the private sector, with more private companies covering services than ever.
